LAS VEGAS – Oregon shrugged off a poor shooting first half, making up for it with a 48-point second half to beat Utah 66-54 Thursday night in a Pac-12 tournament quarterfinal game at T-Mobile Arena.

The Ducks, trailing by as many as eight points during the first half, rallied behind Payton Pritchard and Louis King to beat Utah and advance to the tournament semifinals. Oregon (21-12) plays Arizona State at 8:30 p.m. Friday, with the winner earning a championship game berth.

Pritchard and King, who led Oregon with 20 points each, combined for 31 points during the second half.

The Ducks’ defense shut down the Pac-12’s top three-point shooting team, holding Utah to 2 of 23 from behind the arc.

Utah took a 24-18 lead into the halftime locker room after bottling up Oregon’s offense during the first half. The Ducks shot 8 of 29 during the opening half.

The Utes were particularly effective during the latter stages of the first half. Trailing 14-13 eight minutes before halftime, Utah closed out the first half with an 11-4 run. Half of the Utes’ first-half offense came from Donnie Tillman, who had 12 points during the first 20 minutes. Utah held Oregon to two points off its first half season low.

But the Ducks were different in the second half. The shots began to fall, and the defense remained a constant. Oregon scored the first six points of the half to tie the game at 24-24. Pritchard later rattled off five quick points, including one off a midcourt swipe and layup, to put Ducks in front 31-28.

Pritchard scored nine of Oregon’s first 13 second-half points. Then it became King’s turn to shine. During a four-minute stretch he had a three-point play on a putback, a three-pointer and a driving layup.

Oregon slowly increased its lead, pushing it to 45-36 on Victor Bailey Jr.’s layup with seven minutes left. Utah later cut the deficit to four on back-to-back scores by Timmy Allen, but White quickly silenced the Utes’ surge by hitting a three-pointer.

More to come on this game.
