Slot receiver Cole Beasley did the unthinkable this week: He chose the Buffalo Bills over the New England Patriots.

Cole Beasley said many teams were interested at first in him but his final decision came down to the Bills, Cowboys and Patriots.

Given their obvious preferences in the passing game, New England’s interest in Beasley should be anything but a shock.

A 5-foot-8 receiver, Beasley is coming off a 2018 season that saw him pile up 672 yards and three touchdowns on 65 grabs for the Cowboys as the team’s most-targeted receiver. Beasley isn’t too far removed from a career-year 2016, either, as he totaled 75 catches and five touchdowns en route to a 833-yard season with the Cowboys.

Of course, the nearly $30 million Beasley was given on a four-year deal from the Bills helped his decision. But for the 29-year-old Beasley, to decision to go to Buffalo opposed to New England (or staying in Dallas) came upon the realization that he’ll get more opportunities with second-year pro Josh Allen throwing him the ball as a go-to, dependable target.

“Everybody makes a big deal about money,” Beasley said during his introductory press conference in Buffalo. “I mean, money is important, but really I just wanted opportunities. I felt like I could do more [in Buffalo].”

But considering the Patriots’ failed pursuit of Adam Humphries, and with Golden Tate off to New York, it’s likely that Beasley could have gotten those desired opportunities had he stepped into a Patriot offense led by Tom Brady.

Beasley has heard about his decision via Twitter, and has let it be known that he’s not afraid of any potential mistake he’s made by choosing the Bills over the rest of the field.

Your mistake is assuming the patriots are gonna win every year.

Nevertheless, getting Beasley is good for Buffalo’s fourth win over the Patriots since Dec. 2003.
