- Camila Mendes shared a sweet letter about Charles Melton to celebrate the premiere of his The Sun Is Also a Star movie.
- The Sun Is Also a Star also features Cosmopolitan cover star Yara Shahidi and comes out on May 17.
Charles Melton may play a super emotional poet in the new The Sun Is Also a Star movie, but Camila Mendes’ letter about how much she admires and loves Charles will make you go, “Shakespeare/Daniel Bae WHO!?” Like, this letter was on the “shall I compare thee to a summer’s day” level, and—much like Charles’ cheekbones—I cannot even handle it.
Charles and Camila walked the red carpet for the premiere last night, so it’s basically the perfect time for Camila to reflect on their relationship. She took to Instagram to write about Charles and how he landed the role when they were still just friends. She wrote about how Charles was dying to play one of the lead roles and added, “Aside from having the biggest heart out of anyone I know, his passion and tenacity are part of the reason I fell in love with him.”
Then she went on to write, “I’m probably sharing too much, but before we started dating, he’d often get mad at me for trying to bring logic into love. He taught me that love doesn’t have an explanation, it either exists or it doesn’t.”
If you’d excuse me, I need to collect myself enough to find some tissues.
In the meantime, you just need to read the whole thing because it was really sweet:
“I remember the day @melton told me about this project. we were still just friends then. he hadn’t even been cast yet. they hadn’t even started casting. all he told me was “i’m going to play this role, i am daniel bae.” aside from having the biggest heart out of anyone i know, his passion and tenacity are part of the reason i fell in love with him. watching him throw his entire heart and soul into this story of love taught me a lot about the kind of person he is. i’m probably sharing too much, but before we started dating he’d often get mad at me for trying to bring logic into love. he taught me that love doesn’t have an explanation, it either exists or it doesn’t. it was his vulnerability not only as an actor, but also as a man, that taught me that valuable message, one that is so relevant to this film. i’m so proud of you charles, and so grateful to have witnessed this beautiful journey of yours. can’t wait for the world to see what you’re capable of ♥️ happy premiere day!!”
