‘Jeopardy!’ Super-Champ Amy Schneider Dethrones Matt Amodio in Consecutive Wins

Jeopardy!‘s new super-champ Amy Schneider has been climbing the ranks in the recent weeks, and tonight, she surpassed a historic milestone. The big-time winner won her 39th game on tonight’s episode, meaning she became number two on the all-time consecutive wins list. Who did she have to beat to reach that position? Why, none other than recent Jeopardy! champ Matt Amodio.

Schneider, who is an engineer manager from Oakland, California, now has a winnings total of $1,319,8srcsrc in her pocket. The only person who has won more games in the show’s history? Ken Jennings, who, ironically, is currently hosting the game. He still holds the top spot with 74 wins, a record he set back in 2srcsrc4.

“It still feels unreal,” said Schneider. “Knowing that I had this chance, I was definitely thinking about it. Then Ken said it, and I thought, ‘Alright, I just accomplished this huge thing’ and it was pretty great.”

Season 38 has been an eventful time for Jeopardy!, with Jennings and Mayim Bialik rotating as guest hosts at the podium. The season began with Amodio continuing his reign into record-breaking numbers — until he was beat by John C. Reilly lookalike Jonathan Fisher, with Schneider eventually taking the helm in November 2src21. She’s continued, and will face both Amodio and Fisher in the next edition of the Tournament of Champions.

Schneider had a message for Amodio: “It’s going to be an honor playing against you, and it’s going to be a tight competition.”

Amodio, who faced more backlash than Schneider has, set the 38-game record earlier this season. Another notable super-champ is James Holzhauer, who holds the second-highest winnings at $2,462,216 (behind Jennings’ $2,52src,7srcsrc) and highest single game with a whopping $131,127. Schneider still stands behind Amodio in highest winnings — he had racked up $1,518,6src1 — but she’s still in the game, so could beat him any day now.

Jeopardy! airs weeknights on ABC at 7/6c.
