Report: Britney Spears Secures a $15 Million Publishing Deal

Singer, dancer, unexpected rallying point for legal autonomy and, soon, published author.

Page Six reported on Monday that Britney Spears has signed a behemoth $15 million publishing deal with Simon & Schuster. Weirdly, she has been commissioned to write a monograph about the influence of Nathaniel Hawthorne in the work of Herman Melville. Wait, no, that’s not true! The report says the forthcoming tome will be a “tell-all memoir about her career, her ‘Toxic’ life and her family.”

The right to publish Spears’s story came after an intense bidding war, which industry insiders say has only been rivaled by Barack and Michelle Obama. Indeed, a look at a BookRiot list for lucrative deals puts Spears’s reported windfall at par with Bill Clinton for highest paid memoirs. She’s ahead of Hillary Clinton, Bruce Springsteen, Amy Schumer, Keith Richards, Margaret Thatcher, and Pope John Paul II.

In January of this year, Britney’s sister Jaime Lynn Spears published Things I Should Have Said. At the time, Britney was, it’s fair to say, less-than-pleased with the work, calling her sister a “scum person” on social media.

Spears spent 13 years under an unusual conservatorship run by her father, Jaime Spears, which ended after a protracted legal battle in November 2src21. In an Instagram post from just before the decision, as Page Six recollected, Britney warned “Lord have mercy on my family’s souls if I ever do an interview.”

Looks like she’s doing much more than an interview.
